9 elite golfers (including Scottie Scheffler!) seeking their first win at The Open Championship in 2023

A rather fun trend has developed over the last decade at The Open Championship with the previous nine winners of the final major of the season ranking among the top 33 in the world.

That’s given us some incredible Sunday leaderboards with stars shuffling around all day. It’s also why so many of the previous winners are household names like Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, Shane Lowry and Phil Mickelson.

But there are many more elite golfers who are still looking to win the Claret Jug for the first time in their careers. We’re talking the best of the best — names inside the top 20 of the Official Golf World Rankings. Those players will have an opportunity to finally end their drought this week when the 2023 Open Championship tees off at Royal Liverpool GC.
