Super Bowl 2024 predictions: Our brilliant staff gives you the winner and final score for Chiefs-49ers

The 2024 Super Bowl is here with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

So our question is simple: Who’s winning Super Bowl 58 after a wild 2023 season? Will the 49ers be able to get revenge in a rematch of the 2020 Super Bowl? Can the Chiefs win a second consecutive one with Patrick Mahomes at the helm?

We asked the For The Win staff for their predictions, and we got some takes with the score and winner. So here you go: Our take on who’s winning the Super Bowl on Sunday in Las Vegas.

I will no longer doubt the Michael Jordan (Patrick Mahomes), Scottie Pippen (Travis Kelce) and Phil Jackson (Andy Reid) of the NFL. Never mind that the 49ers’ pass defense is atrocious, and an elite Chiefs’ defense is licking its chops over Brock Purdy’s penchant for chaos. Give me the Chiefs to cruise and become the first NFL team to win back-to-back championships in two decades.

Both teams have the same weakness: stopping the run. So do you go with the team with a pretty good running back, or the one who has the league’s best running back?

Every time I pick against the Kansas City Chiefs, I’m wrong. So, let me do myself a favor and roll with the Kansas City Swifties! (I’m kidding, Chiefs fans.) But, seriously, I think that this will be a back-and-forth battle until Brock Purdy inevitably turns into a pumpkin late in the fourth quarter with a horrendous interception.

While I don’t think the Chiefs will completely run roughshod over the 49ers, I don’t know if this Super Bowl will be that close. Brock Purdy’s magic will run out against an ironclad Chiefs defense, while Patrick Mahomes and company have their way on the other side of the field.

I couldn’t bring myself to bet against Patrick Mahomes in last year’s Super Bowl when KC played an Eagles team I viewed as superior, so I’m definitely not betting against him playing a 49ers team I’m less confident in. A slow start by Brock Purdy puts the Niners in a hole they never recover from. Chiefs win.

A month ago, I would have said Niners by two touchdowns. But something happened in the postseason: The Chiefs got back to being the team that could end up as an NFL dynasty. Travis Kelce caught everything in sight. Rashee Rice became a top receiver. The defense looked feisty. That’ll continue, especially against young Brock Purdy.

The Chiefs have an elite defense and are finally playing some of their best football on offense. Plus, Patrick Mahomes is not losing to Brock Purdy — like, no chance.

The Chiefs cement their place as the rightful heirs to the Patriots Dynasty as two offenses that work best when they run the ball drag each other into the mud. This won’t be a game where the team who has the ball last wins. It’ll be one where whichever team scores 10-plus points first controls the clock the rest of the way. I think Kansas City gets ahead early and stays ahead.

If you told me going into the playoffs that these would be the Super Bowl teams, I would have felt really good about picking the 49ers. But after the Chiefs’ offense exploded in the postseason, gotta go with Kansas City as back-to-back champs.

Patrick Mahomes has lost one Super Bowl, and it was to Tom Brady. Until another quarterback is able to out-duel the Kansas City titan, the Chiefs are the team to beat in the big game. While the 49ers will score points, the Chiefs will find a way to win. Three Super Bowls in four years… that’s dynasty material.
