With the help of a dazzling performance on the uneven bars, Suni Lee won the gold medal in the women’s all-around competition Thursday night at the Tokyo Olympics. She’s the fifth straight American woman to win Olympic all-around gold — joining Carly Patterson, Nastia Liukin, Gabby Douglas and Simone Biles, who withdrew from the team and all-around competitions.
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade won the silver medal, and the Russian Olympic Committee’s Angelina Melnikova won the bronze.
But after the rotations on vault, balance beam, uneven bars and floor, Lee — an 18-year-old gymnast from St. Paul, Minnesota who’s headed to Auburn — had the competition’s top score. And her family back home had a wonderful reaction to her victory.
Although this is Lee’s first Olympics, the all-around gold wasn’t her first medal. She also won a silver medal earlier this week in the team competition.
Gymnastics photos are some of the best photos from the Olympics, so here are 14 stunning photos of Lee from her all-around gold medal-winning performance at the Tokyo Olympics.
