The Cincinnati Bengals became the first NFL team to be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention following a Week 11 loss to the Raiders, and many other teams around the league are already looking ahead at the 2020 NFL Draft. With six weeks remaining in the regular season, the Wild Card race is wide open in the AFC, while a sizable group of Super Bowl contenders are set to clash in the NFC playoffs.
To determine which teams have the best chance of making the playoffs in 2019, we crunched the numbers from the most recent playoff models from three major outlets – ESPN FPI, Football Outsiders, and Five Thirty Eight. Each team is ranked in order of their average projected chance to qualify for the playoffs. We’ve also included each team’s Super Bowl chances, according to the models.
BIG WINNER FROM WEEK 11:
Colts: Jacoby Brissett is back, and the Colts rolled to a blowout win over AFC South rival Jacksonville. The win boosted Indianapolis’ playoff chances by 22.4 percent, but the Colts now face a pivotal Week 12 matchup against the Texans.
BIG LOSER FROM WEEK 11:
Steelers: There’s a logjam of 7- and 6-win teams vying for Wild Card berths in the AFC, and the Steelers’ loss to Cleveland to drop to 5-5 caused Pittsburgh’s playoff chances to plummet by 26.2 percent.
