See eerie photos of Juventus playing Inter in an empty stadium due to coronavirus

Juventus and Inter Milan played an important Serie A match on Sunday, but the game was played under extraordinary circumstances. Due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, a new coronavirus which is spreading globally, the game was played behind closed doors.

It provided a beyond-eerie atmosphere. On television, you could hear individual players talking on the pitch, calling out requests to teammates. When goals were scored, the only sound was the team’s bench and training staff cheering, their yells echoing around the empty stadium.

Italy is dealing with one of the worst coronavirus outbreaks in the world. On March 8th, the government’s civil protection agency announced that 366 people had died from the disease, with the number of infections rising from 1,492 to 7,375.

The game between Juventus and Inter was delayed at first while the league debated canceling it altogether. Eventually, they decided to go ahead. Juventus won 2-0 off goals from Paulo Dybala and Aaron Ramsey.
