Just one day into his very first Masters tournament, Danish golfer Nicolai Højgaard is already in strong position to actually contend for the green jacket.
On the tournament’s first day, Højgaard finished with a -5 under par through hole 15 behind Bryson DeChambeau (-7) and Scottie Scheffler (-6) with the third-best score out of all competing golfers.
Tournament play was suspended early because of the time of day, but Højgaard had as good of an opening Masters appearance as you could expect.
Nicolai Højgaard turned pro in 2019 and currently plays on the PGA Tour and European Tour. He helped the European team win the 2023 Ryder Cup.
As of Thursday night, he was ranked 38th in the world for professional golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking.
The 23-year-old golfer is also a twin brother to fellow professional golfer Rasmus Højgaard.
We’ll see how Nicolai Højgaard fares on the green in Augusta as he continues his quest to stun the professional golfing world in his first Masters run with an outright win.
