Masters 2024: 1 of these 10 golfers will win at Augusta

I said it last year, and I’ll say it again: picking a winner at The Masters isn’t the time to go for a dark hosrse.

Look at the list of various winners in recent years (ignore Danny Willett, though): Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed … these are all some big names who were good at the time they got their green jacket.

So as we dive into the 10 golfers to target when it comes to bets and picks, you’ll see a lot of chalk here, with a smattering of intrigue. That’s by design.

So here you go: one of these names will win the Masters this week (all odds via BetMGM):

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

We’ll keep things simple here: he’s Scottie Scheffler. Also, he won here two years ago, and … oh yeah, he’s Scottie Scheffler. Any list like this has to include him.

Quick, how many golfers have repeated at Augusta? The answer is … THREE (Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods). So this is going out on a bit of a limb, but he’s played well on LIV, which may not be the best indicator, yet it’s what we’ve got. He’s still one of the world’s best.

Two top-3 finishes, a T10 last year, the kind of form you like to see as of late. Yeah, that’s a resume to target.

I don’t love the missed cut last year, but I do love all those times he’s gotten close to the career grand slam. That third-place finish at the Texas Open feels good.

Brooks Koepka (+2000)

I don’t care about recent results with him. He’s the big game hunter. Any major, he has to be on a list like this.

Cameron Smith (+4000)

The history at Augusta is really good, he’s won a major (the 2022 British Open) and looked good at last year’s PGA and U.S. Open. I’ll say he can do it.

Cameron Young (+4500)

Recent form is good (finish second at the Valspar, went T4 at the Cognizant and T8 in Scottsdale). Finished T7 last year at Augusta. I dig his game in this environment.

A top-10 finish last year was eye-opening. His play this year has been downright awesome. I love this pick.

Matt Fitzpatrick (+3300)

Some of the missed cuts this year are a concern. The fifth place finish at the Players and a T10 in Texas are not. I like what I saw last year at the Masters. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win.

Besides his wild sartorial choices, one other thing is a near guarantee: he’s going to be in the mix at a major. He finished T7 last year, so I like him to take another step forward here.
