The 2023 NBA Draft has come and gone, and we’ve got a very obvious candidate leading the way for 2023-24’s Rookie of the Year.
French basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama leads the rookie class as the favorite to win top honors next year with -225 odds.
It’s understandable that the new San Antonio Spurs forward/center has the best odds, considering what a highly touted prospect he is.
Scoot Henderson, who went third on Thursday night to the Portland Trail Blazers, sits right behind Wembanyama with +350 odds.
The intriguing player in this bunch is Chet Holmgren, who went second overall last year to the Oklahoma City Thunder. He sat out his entire rookie season with a foot injury and will be considered a rookie this fall.
Our Prince J. Grimes says to watch Holmgren this fall as the primary competition for Wembanyama’s Rookie of the Year efforts.
New Charlotte Hornets rookie Brandon Miller (+950) and new Houston Rockets rookie Amen Thompson (+1400) round out the top five in the odds.
We’ll see if Wembanyama can reach his incredibly high expectations this fall. Even if he doesn’t right away, he still has the inside track to be the NBA’s best young player by season’s ends.
