Welcome to FTW’s NASCAR Feud of the Week, where we provide a detailed breakdown of the latest absurd, funny and sometimes legitimate controversies and issues within the racing world.
This one is a friendly feud — not to be confused with the almost feud we highlighted earlier this week. This is a hilariously vicious but (most likely) a truly jokingly series of Twitter jabs between two racing buddies: Ryan Blaney and Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr.
These two young drivers are good friends — or NASCAR BFFs as we’ve called them in the past — but that doesn’t stop them from having fun at the other’s expense. Like the time Blaney teased Wallace about cheating in races, or another time they traded Twitter insults, resulting in Wallace hilariously accusing Blaney of liking Nickelback.
And Thursday, their Twitter hits on each other related to racing.
Wallace posted a photo of a golf cart with a caption that was a backhanded compliment of Blaney’s performance this season. The No. 12 Team Penske driver has had a fairly successful first eight races of the NASCAR season, despite not finding his way to Victory Lane.
Blaney has four top-5 finishes and has led the third-most laps overall so far at 353, easily leading the way among winless drivers this season. His two teammates, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano, combine for three wins at this point, and it seems like only a matter of time before he gets his first 2019 win.
In response, Blaney took a shot at Wallace for finishing on the lead lap in just one of the first eight races — although he was involved in a crash in the Daytona 500 and didn’t finish, so that doesn’t really count.
That’s a funny yet harsh reply, and NASCAR Twitter was stunned and loving it. We’ll see if either of them can change those stats up Saturday at Richmond Raceway, where NASCAR’s Toyota Owners 400 is.
