Everything we know about Washington Football Team's new name (which might be the Commanders?)

It’s a new month — February! — and that means we’re super close to finding out the new name of the Washington Football Team.

That’s right, on Wednesday, Feb. 2, WFT will introduce its new moniker and uniforms, nearly two years after the NFL franchise retired its derogatory name in July of 2020. Since then, they’ve been Washington Football Team, which some people like.

There’s been quite a bit of speculation, potential leaks and digging around from fans who have possibly found out the official new name ahead of time, so we decided to round up everything we know leading up to Wednesday. Here’s what we know up to now:

The announcement is coming on Groundhog Day

Feb. 2, as you may know, is Groundhog Day in the United States, so a lot of fans wondered if that meant the name would be the Washington Groundhogs or the Washington Hogs.
