The wildest things Bill Walton has said so far this college basketball season

Listening to Bill Walton call basketball games is an experience in the truest sense. You have absolutely no idea what he’s going to say.

He’ll take a liking to a certain player and tell the audience what that player reminds him of. Or he’ll just start going on random tangents about current world events. Or he’ll just give out facts about places he’s visited for literal minutes of a broadcast.

That’s just normal Bill Walton stuff. And, so far this year, it’s been no different. He’s been calling the Camping World Maui Invitational this year and dropping absolute gems on us throughout the tournament.

Here are the wildest things he’s said so far this season.

Walton talks Grateful Dead

During Tuesday’s call, Walton went on a tangent about a Grateful Dead tour and asked his broadcast partner, Jason Benetti, did he go to Egypt with the band.

Benetti said no. Walton was shocked.

Unfortunate for Benetti.

No idea what Walton is talking about here but it's great

Walton has this innate ability to just go on these vivid tangents and it’s just incredible. Here he is talking about bike riding through the Angeles forest (I think???).

Anyway, it is an indelible adventure. Listen to it.

No idea what he’s talking about here but I definitely need to figure it out.

He shouts out UCLA for rejecting money

Here he is talking about how proud he is of UCLA for rejecting a donation from Koch industries. Absolutely NOTHING to do with the basketball game.

Bill Walton loves Puff

While Walton and Benetti were calling a UNC game, they found themselves talking about Puff Johnson’s name.

Then Walton went on a tangent about how much he loved Puff. Not just Puff Johnson — all of the puff.

Walton barks on television

Bill Walton does his best dog impression here. It’s pretty great, if I do say so myself.

Bill Walton wants to go to Asheville

Somebody needs to plan this trip.

Apparently Walton thinks Kevin Garnett went to Texas???

I have no legitimate explanation for this but it is absolutely hilarious.

Davidson = Steph Curry. Texas = Kevin Garnett???? Alright, Bill. I guess.
