Yes, Ted Lasso isn’t real.
But one of the quirkier and more fun phenomena that’s emerged from the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series is that people tweet at the character and show on Twitter like the coach played by Jason Sudeikis is a real person, or a shoutout in an episode results in an emotional moment.
You get it, though. There’s something about Ted Lasso that feels real and relatable, in part because of the celeb name-drops, or because it’s so feel-good that in the middle of a rough year, we want it to be.
With that in mind, let’s run down some awesome celebrity tweets about the series as it gets toward the end of Season 2.
1
Dolly Parton
Let’s start with a recent one that has more to do with a tweet sent by the Lasso Twitter account:
That’s funny, when it comes to small talk I often ask myself what would Dolly Parton do? Start with the 9 to 5 and end with God Only Knows https://t.co/n2eFMTAGaP

You're too sweet, @TedLasso! I heard you left some @AFCRichmond tickets at will call under my name? 😉 https://t.co/1TcY8dFvOK

2
Rick Astley
I’m going to try hard not to spoil anything here, but there was an episode recently with a lot of Rick Astley in it, and the singer replied with an emotional video:
#Believe #Biscuits #Grrrr @TedLasso @jasonsudeikis @hanwaddingham @brendanhunting @brettgoldstein @AppleTV #tedlasso pic.twitter.com/MZ9Bm773kP

Hannah Waddingham was very excited about this one:
DM’d you. Not going to embarrassingly fangirl in public!!😂🙈😂 #eveningmade

3
Diane Sawyer
She would be down for a date with Ted! This came after a shoutout on the show.
Dear @TedLasso – I’m in. Your move. pic.twitter.com/durjeZkeIj

Oh my…you’ve got me more on my heels than Lady Gaga at the Met Gala. Any chance you like biscuits? https://t.co/TYbIGW3d8W

Reba McEntire
Ted had said he left AFC Richmond tickets for Roy Kent under famous singers, and McEntire was the one used when Kent realized he wanted to coach the team and he went to will call.
So McEntire sent this:
I believe you’re holding a ticket for… @TedLasso pic.twitter.com/y31TxgtYUS
— Reba McEntire (@reba) August 21, 2021
I know, right? I was just sitting there in my living room watching Ted Lasso on the television and Roy Kent, of all people, said my name!
— Reba McEntire (@reba) August 21, 2021
Sorry Reba, I think I took your ticket. https://t.co/4bXTHqwdvc
— Brett Goldstein (@brettgoldstein) August 21, 2021
Buy me a dancin' dress and call me Fancy! You’re welcome at the Dog Track anytime, Reba. We’ll leave your tickets under “Roy Kent” 😉 https://t.co/Fjob67CQpi

5
Drew Barrymore
In the rom-com-centric episode, she got a shoutout. So Barrymore screamed:
6
Ryan Reynolds/Rob McElhenney
The two of them invested in Wrexham AFC, a real soccer club. So when Higgins (Jeremy Swift) says he can’t tell if the two actors buying the club “is a joke or not,” Apple TV+ received a hilarious mock cease and desist:
Enough is enough, @TedLasso & @AppleTV pic.twitter.com/P3jBb2WJld
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) August 21, 2021
Well, Wrexham got their biscuits.
A man of his word, thanks @TedLasso!
Better late than never, 50 boxes of forgiveness are gratefully accepted 🍪
P.s, tell Colin, mae'r ddraig Gymreig yn gryf ynddo! 🏴

Croeso gents! Like I always say about the films of James Cameron, if you can’t be on time, at least be big. https://t.co/ZXYEN3QPWM

Brene Brown
The author and social work expert was very excited for her shoutout:
Yes, I lost my mind.
Yes, I have a new book coming out this year.
No, it’s not titled “Enter the Arena but Bring a Knife.”#believe #worththewait pic.twitter.com/HsCSoAu2rc— Brené Brown (@BreneBrown) August 31, 2021
