It’s time for us to get into the month of April and see what’s out there for us at the multiplex and at home on streaming with new movie options.
As we did last month, we’ve broken down what movies are coming out this month that catch our attention. Promising options range from the directorial debut of actor Dev Patel to a brand-new romantic thriller starring Zendaya.
We’ve also got a new Nicolas Cage horror movie, a new vampire flick from the guys who made the last two Scream films and a new action thriller from director Alex Garland.
Let’s break down which movies this month you should keep an eye on, and when you’ll be able to catch them at the movies and/or on your couch.
Monkey Man
Dev Patel makes his directorial debut with Monkey Man, an India-set action thriller that reminds you a lot of John Wick when you watch the trailer. It looks like a fantastic time at the movies and is produced by filmmaker Jordan Peele, a wonderful stamp of approval.
Release Date: April 5 (theaters)
The Greatest Hits
This upcoming romantic comedy stars Lucy Boynton, Justin H. Min and the new Superman, David Corenswet. This one reportedly involves music and time-traveling, which sounds fascinating.
Release Date: April 5 (theaters), April 12 (Hulu)
Civil War
Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation) returns behind the camera for a tense-looking imagining of what might happen if the United States broke out in another Civil War. This one looks like one of the most heart-stopping movies of the year just based on the trailer alone.
Release Date: April 12 (theaters)
Arcadian
Arcadian looks like A Quiet Place with Nicolas Cage, only with more talking because, apparently, these monsters don’t have as good of hearing as the ones in the John Krasinski movies. With Cage in tow, we were already interested, but the trailer looks quite interesting.
Release Date: April 12 (theaters)
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead
A remake of the 1991 film, the title for Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead basically tells you everything you need to know about this upcoming comedy.
Release Date: April 12 (theaters)
Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp
We’ll include an option for the kids here, as everyone’s favorite, frantic, feathered friend Woody Woodpecker is back. The wily bird takes his shenanigans to camp in this movie, which we’re sure will feature lots of slapstick humor and that very high-pitched Woody Woodpecker laugh.
Release Date: April 12 (Netflix)
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Filmmaker Guy Ritchie has been on a productive streak lately, as his latest movie stars Henry Cavill in a World War II spy comedy that looks like it’ll have plenty of the director’s signature action and hijinks. It’s actually Ritchie’s fourth film since 2021.
Release Date: April 19 (theaters)
Abigail
This upcoming horror movie from the duo who made the last two Scream movies pits a gang of kidnappers against a vampire’s daughter who they foolishly have taken hostage. Bad idea!
Release Date: April 19 (theaters)
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver
Zack Snyder fans can watch the second part to his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon this month, which should wrap up the story and possibly leave you hoping for more installments in the universe Snyder crafted.
Release Date: April 19 (Netflix)
Challengers
Zendaya leads this romantic thriller set against the world of professional tennis. Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist co-star in what should be one of the more talked-about movies of the spring.
Release Date: April 26 (theaters)
