The Memorial Tournament 2023: Full odds, best bets and sleepers

We’re only a few days removed from a thrilling finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge and the PGA Tour is kicking things up a notch yet again.

The annual stop at Muirfield Village Golf Club returns the sport to Jack Nicklaus’ old stomping grounds outside of Columbus, Ohio with the added weight of a designated event.

A $20 million purse has brought the biggest names on the PGA Tour out to play — which of course means we’re looking at another week of Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler against the field. The two top golfers in the world enter as the clear favorites this week, and there’s no shame in betting on them to win, but they are far from a lock.

Here’s our best bets for the Memorial Tournament starting on Thursday.

Patrick Cantlay (+1000)

Cantlay has been tearing up this course for years now. He won the Memorial in 2019 and 2021 while finishing third last year. That he’s not the favorite speaks to how well Scheffler and Rahm have been playing this season.

Rory McIlroy (+1400)

The Memorial is one of the few major tournaments that McIlroy hasn’t won yet. It seems like that’s just a matter of time, however. He has seven Top 25 finishes and four Top 10 finishes in 11 events at Muirfield.

Xander Schauffele (-175)

The 29-year-old is as consistent as they come at Muirfield. Since missing the cut in 2018 — his first entry in the tournament — Schauffele has finished T18 or better in four straight appearances.  He’ll be in the mix again in 2023.

Corey Conners (+140)

Conners has a mixed history at the Memorial but that doesn’t include any missed cuts in his four appearances. Last year saw his best outing yet as the Canadian took 13th at 3-under-par. After strong outings at the Wells Fargo Championship and PGA Championship, getting plus-money here is solid value.

Rickie Fowler (+4000 Outright/+320 Top 10)

He’s as familiar with the course as anyone out there and will be making his 14th appearance on Thursday. Rickie has been runner-up twice and has six Top 25 finishes at Muirfield. Coupled with an exciting comeback season, he’s worth a small outright wager here.

Hideki Matsuyama (+4000 Outright/+320 Top 10)

A year ago Matsuyama was disqualified during the first round under truly strange circumstances, which is a shame because he typically plays pretty well at Muirfield. He won the tournament in 2014 and has three Top 10 finishes overall. He’ll be a threat to win again this time around as long as he doesn’t break any rules.

Billy Horschel (+9000 Outright/+650 Top 10)

It seems silly for the defending champion at this tournament to have odds this long — especially when you consider Horschel has five Top 25 finishes at the Memorial.

Byeong Hun An (+10000 Outright/+700 Top 10)

Not only does An have four Top 25 finishes at the Memorial, he finished runner-up in 2018. Coupled with back-to-back strong weeks on tour (T14 AT&T Byron Nelson, T21 Charles Schwab Challenge) there’s a bit of momentum here.
