5 teams who should call the Mavericks about the No. 10 pick in the NBA Draft

The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be considering a trade of the No. 10 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Jake Fischer, Dallas is “widely known to be evaluating trade possibilities” to bring in help for Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

The natural question then becomes which prospects are likely to be available at No. 10 and which team might consider trading up to take one of them. A quick consensus of popular big boards across the internet has UCF’s Taylor Hendricks, Arkansas’ Anthony Black, Kentucky’s Cason Wallace and Kansas’ Gradey Dick as the prospects closest to 10th-best — which is fitting, as those players have the four best odds at DraftKings to be drafted 10th overall.

These are the teams that may want to call Dallas if one of those players is available.

Fred VanVleet can opt out of his contract over the next couple of days to seek a longer and more lucrative contract. If he decides to not re-sign with the Raptors, they’ll be in desperate need of a point guard and Cason Wallace would be a great replacement to develop.

I’m not sure who’d they part with the make this happen, though. Or if Dallas would want anyone the Raptors would be willing to offer.

The Jazz frontcourt appears to be set with Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler, but they could use more size and length on the wings, which they could get from Anthony Black or Gradey Dick.

Would a package around someone like Jordan Clarkson and one or both of the Nos. 16 and 28 picks be enough to peak Dallas’ interest.

The Nets pick at No. 21 and 22, so they could offer either or both picks in a package with players to move up for someone like Wallace or even Taylor Hendricks, who would provide size in the front-court while still being able to stretch the floor.

Brooklyn also has recent familiarity with the Mavericks after the blockbuster deal that sent Irving to Dallas.

Indiana Pacers

The Pacers showed some promise last season, but they are still firmly in a rebuild and shouldn’t be done accumulating young talent. They could use any of the four players mentioned above for depth, but especially Hendricks, Dick or Black as potential starters in the future. And Dallas could use a shooter like Buddy Hield.

Indiana also has the Nos. 26 and 29 picks to play with in a trade.

If the Bulls decide to finally start a rebuild this summer, they could offer DeMar DeRozan in a trade for Dallas’ pick and jump into the first round of a draft they’re currently set to sit out completely. From there, any of the top available players would be at play, but Wallace could be a smart pickup as a replacement for the injured Lonzo Ball.
