LiAngelo Ball lands with Pistons — 3 things to know about the signing

It appears that all three Ball brothers could be in the NBA next year.

LiAngelo Ball signed a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Detroit Pistons this week. The news was first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, then confirmed by Ball’s father, LaVar.

LiAngelo has bounced around in his professional basketball career. The 22-year-old shooting guard played professionally in Lithuania, then played with the Los Angeles Ballers in his father’s JBA league. This past year, Ball signed with the Oklahoma City Blue of the G League, but wasn’t able to feature due to the season being cancelled due to COVID-19.

He’s now signed with the Pistons. Here’s what you need to know about the deal:

1
The contract is reportedly an "Exhibit 10" deal

An Exhibit 10 deal is a low-risk way for an NBA team to sign a player. It’s a one-year deal that is not guaranteed. The only guarantee that comes with the contract is an invitation to training camp. If Ball doesn’t make the squad, he can earn bonuses up to $50,000 to sign with the Pistons’ G League team.

2
The Pistons are in full rebuild mode

Ball should have a decent shot to make the Pistons, however. The team has made a staggering 25 roster moves this offseason, acquiring a bunch of young players and draft picks in the process. They’re young, they’re rebuilding, and I’m guessing they’re going to let a lot of fringe players at least get a shot at making a rotation. Ball should benefit from that.

LaVar Ball could have all three sons in the NBA

The man is clearly very excited about this.
