The NBA offseason got off to a very nutty start when Kevin Durant news broke: The Brooklyn Nets megastar wants out, and the franchise is seeking a trade.
It was stunning given the fact that Kyrie Irving just opted in, given that the pair could be healthy and available this season, along with Ben Simmons, and maybe make a run at a championship.
But here we are. And the answer is: EVERYONE should want to trade for a top-three player with four years left on his contract with the kind of impact he can make.
We’ll have some fun here. Let’s rank every team by who should or shouldn’t do it:
29
Oklahoma City Thunder
Here, look: I made a photoshopped version of KD in the uni:

All joking aside, there’s no way he’s coming back to the Thunder.
28
Houston Rockets
You’re going to see a lot of rebuilding teams up here, because it makes no sense to empty out the young guys and future picks to have KD and not contend.
27
San Antonio Spurs
The rebuild is on after the Dejounte Murray trade.
26
Orlando Magic
Good try, Paolo Banchero, but uh … you know you’d probably be dealt in this scenario, right?
He hasn't even made his NBA debut yet, but that won't stop Paolo Banchero from recruiting

25
Detroit Pistons
I don’t think they could get away with this without trading Jaden Ivey. So, nah.
24
Indiana Pacers
The Pacers are in a midst of an overhaul, so KD wouldn’t even want to play if traded there.
23
Charlotte Hornets

A fun team if KD joined, but no, I don’t see this as a spot.
22
New York Knicks
A pipe dream for a fanbase that was hopeful about him a few years ago. Sadly, I just don’t think KD would want that or that it’d be a good idea for a franchise still figuring out what it should be doing.
21
Sacramento Kings
They just drafted Keegan Murray and would have to ship him out as part of a package. For KD? It might be worth it. But they wouldn’t be a title contender with him anyway.
20
Cleveland Cavaliers
Again, we’d have to consider cost: Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen might have to be a part of it. And given what the Cavs showed us last year with Evan Mobley aboard, I’d say they wouldn’t want to make this deal.
19
Minnesota Timberwolves

Didn’t the Nets already trade away D’Angelo Russell? They sure did! Otherwise, KAT and Ant are untouchable … I would think?
18
Milwaukee Bucks
I know, feels low. But they’re set up to win now. Why stir things up when they’re among the title favorites next year?
17
New Orleans Pelicans
We’ve reached the “Hmmm!” stage of the rankings. Zion healthy is huge. If they can somehow pull it off without dealing Trey Murphy and Herbert Jones, I’d say it’s intriguing!
16
Utah Jazz
Would Rudy Gobert be involved? This would be really, really fun. But I don’t know if Durant would want to be in the middle of the chaos that’s surrounding the Jazz.
Also, weird: Royce O’Neale JUST got traded to the Nets while the KD news broke. What is up with that?
15
Denver Nuggets
The Joker. KD. My goodness, can you imagine?
Except I don’t know how this would work or what the trade would look like, especially with Jamal Murray coming back and who knows what the deal with Michael Porter Jr. is.
14
Chicago Bulls
This would be fun, but there are better options out there.
13
Boston Celtics

Sort of like the Bucks above, but I feel like Brad Stevens would think about it for a minute.
12
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers cupboard is bare. I just love the idea of a Durant and Russell Westbrook trade.
11
Dallas Mavericks
Luka Doncic and Durant, what a dream pairing! But doesn’t feel like they have the package to do it.
10
Washington Wizards
Hey, he’s a DC area guy, right? That’s got to mean something!
9
Los Angeles Clippers

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports
Durant just tried the three-superstar thing with Irving and James Harden. So while this would be so fun on paper, I’m not sure how it works in practice.
8
Memphis Grizzlies
A team that feels like it’s on its way to some really awesome things. Do you choose to break that up to pair Durant with Ja Morant? It sure is tempting if it’s possible.
7
Toronto Raptors
My NBA group chat asked: Would the Raps trade Scottie Barnes for Durant? That is a great question. Imagining a superstar like Durant joining this roster is wild.
6
Portland Trail Blazers

Heck yeah, this would be amazing.
5
Philadelphia 76ers
You don’t ask questions about how it’ll work with Joel Embiid. You just pull the trade off and worry about that later.
4
Atlanta Hawks
It’s all right there. The Hawks’ roster is deep as heck and Trae Young and Dejounte Murray could fit really nicely with him.
3
Miami Heat
Remember, they can’t trade Bam Adebayo in a deal for KD. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try.
2
Phoenix Suns
Would it take Mikal Bridges, Deandre Ayton sign-and-trade and lots of picks? I’m dreaming of Devin Booker playing with him. Wow.

Golden State Warriors
Of course.
