A week ago, John Calipari was set to return for another season as Kentucky’s men’s basketball coach.
Now, Calipari is in Arkansas as the next Razorbacks coach and Kentucky has reportedly brought back a franchise legend to lead its program instead.
Per multiple reports, Kentucky is expected to hire Brigham Young University coach Mark Pope to lead the Wildcats.
Pope played for Kentucky in college and won a national title under Rick Pitino in 1996. He played in the NBA for nearly a decade before joining the college coaching ranks. He now returns to Lexington to take on the lofty expectations of returning Kentucky into a regular championship contender.
Once news broke that Pope was Kentucky’s pick, reactions from fans and analysts was extremely polarizing. Some felt this was a a great hire, while others questioned this being where Kentucky landed after courting some of the biggest coaching names in the country.
