Francis Ngannou's loss to Tyson Fury after knocking him down had boxing fans calling the fight rigged

If you thought the fight between former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and undefeated WBC heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury was some kind of gimmick, think again.

Fury won the fight Saturday as most expected, but it wasn’t without controversy as a large contingent of the viewing public thought Ngannou should have won after putting Fury on his back in the third round.

Fury was awarded the win by split decision, but Ngannou, in his pro boxing debut, did something so many more experienced boxers could not before him, he made Fury sweat.

Through two of the scheduled 10 rounds, it appeared Fury, who was a -1600 favorite at BetMGM, would cruise to a win. However, the third-round knockdown appeared to change the direction of the fight, with Ngannou (+800) landing more total punches between the third and eighth rounds, according to CompuBox.

But when the final scores came in, just one judge favored Ngannou, by a score of 95-94, with the other two scoring it 96-93 and 95-94, respectively, in favor of Fury.

Fans on social media were stunned to the point of calling it rigged.
