Fantasy football waiver wire after Week 8: Is Will Levis a QB1?

Week 8 of the 2023 NFL season is nearly over, with one more game to go on Monday night.

And if you play fantasy football, you’re already planning ahead with waivers after a busy slate of games.

That’s what we’re here for, a roundup of some of the players you could be targeting ahead of Week 9.

Some of the names below might be taken already, but if not, there are a bunch of dudes who could change your fantasy fortunes this season. Let’s run through them, in no particular order, and we’ll update this after the Las Vegas Raiders and Detroit Lions play on Monday Night Football.

1
QB Will Levis, Tennessee Titans

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

WOW. The week started out with talk that Levis and Malik Willis could split time and ended with Levis throwing four — FOUR! — touchdowns. If you need a QB, he’s worth a pickup just to see if he can keep this up, but temper your expectations a bit given the defenses he’ll face (Steelers, Bucs, Jaguars and Panthers) in the next few weeks.

2
TE Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals

Alex Gallardo-USA TODAY Sports

The 2022 second-rounder has shown flashes here and there … and then on Sunday, he caught 10-of-14 passes for 95 yards and a score. With Zach Ertz injured, that’s plenty of reason to pick him up.

3
RB Pierre Strong Jr., Cleveland Browns

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Kareem Hunt (14 carries) and Jerome Ford (nine) still got work, but it was Strong Jr. who carried the ball 10 times and averaged 4.1 ypc. Not bad, especially on a run-heavy team.

4
WR Jahan Dotson, Washington Commanders

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Well! Ten targets, eight catches and a score against the Eagles. If someone dropped him, go get him and see if this is the start of something.

5
WR Demario Douglas, New England Patriots

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

He’s seen nine targets in his last two games and the Pats might have some injury trouble at wide receiver.
