Fantasy football waivers: Should you keep or cut these 7 players ahead of Week 13?

You’re waking up on Tuesday reading all that you can about the players that you should be picking up off the waiver wire as you prepare for Week 13 of fantasy football in 2021.

But it’s likely there aren’t as many things written about who you should be dropping to grab those players. That’s what this weekly column — keep ’em or dump ’em! — will hopefully answer for you: Some help in the debate over who you should keep or drop in order to improve your team.

We’re a couple of weeks away from the end of byes and approaching the playoffs. It’s also a BIG waiver wire week, so let’s dive into who you might be considering as far as who to drop:

1
RB D'Ernest Johnson, Cleveland Browns

We’re in that stretch of fantasy football where you want to collect as many high-upside backups as possible in case there’s a major injury (such as what we’ve seen this week with Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook).

With Johnson — who put up a goose egg on Sunday with Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb both playing — it’s tricky. The Browns are on a bye and if one of those two gets injured, how much will Johnson truly play? If you absolutely need the room, feel free to drop him but if you don’t, perhaps hang on for a week or two.

VERDICT: Drop him if you need to

2
RB Darrel Williams, Kansas City Chiefs

See above — you want to hang on to RBs like Williams who could end up with the top job if the current top running back like Clyde Edwards-Helaire gets hurt.

VERDICT: Keep him

3
RB Mike Davis, Atlanta Falcons

A nominee for biggest bust of the year, he wasn’t even getting carries with Cordarrelle Patterson out. It’s safe to drop him.

VERDICT: Drop him

4
QB Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers

He’s on a bye this week and has a rough schedule beyond Week 14 — at Buffalo, vs. the Bucs, at Saints to finish the fantasy season. I think it’s safe to drop him even after that huge game against Washington since he followed it up with a dud against the Dolphins.

VERDICT: Drop him

5
RB Alex Collins, Seattle Seahawks

What a disaster the Hawks are. And Collins has gotten a bunch of the rushing volume … and done next to nothing with it. Deejay Dallas is getting more work, too.

But because he’s a starting RB, you need to hang on! Ugh.

VERDICT: Keep him

6
WR Jamison Crowder, New York Jets

I’m perfectly fine with dropping him. The only Jets WR to hang on to beyond the injured Corey Davis is Elijah Moore.

VERDICT: Drop him

7
TE Tyler Conklin, Minnesota Vikings

He’s become touchdown dependent — he’s only gone over 20 yards once in the past three games. But given the position’s lack of talent, you may have to hold on for streaming situations like the matchup against the Lions in Week 13.

VERDICT: Keep him
