Fans had so many jokes about Aaron Rodgers' hilariously low performance-based NFL bonus

I find the NFL’s performance-based payouts to just generally be hilarious off of principle alone. I mean, think about it. This is the NFL paying players from a pool of money for outperforming their contracts. But when it’s time for some of those very same players to sign new contracts? It’s crickets. That’s the business of the game. We all understand it. It’s just pretty funny.

That’s not what we’re here to talk about right now, though. Our subject of the hour is — once again — Aaron Rodgers.

Anyone who watches the NFL knows that Rodgers basically didn’t play at all last season. He was only on the field for a few seconds before tearing his Achilles.

But folks! He was, indeed, on the field. And because he was on the field, guess what? He is entitled to performance-based pay. That’s how this thing works!

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers got a laughably low $81.14 from the NFL’s payout.

Now it makes sense why Rodgers was lying to us about his recovery. He must have been trying to make it back in time to get a bit more of that performance bonus. That freedom fight ain’t gonna pay for itself, after all. Right?

If you’re looking for a top end comparison, Brock Purdy pocketed about $740k from the same system for outperforming his deal. He could buy a house or two with that.

Rodgers? He could buy a PS5 controller. He’d even have some pocket change left to buy a sandwich! Maybe even a personal pizza, if he’s feeling a little dangerous.

Fans had so many jokes about this.
