Dying Light 2: Item and money duplication glitch guide

Dying Light 2 is available now, and just to make the deal even sweeter, you can play almost the entire lengthy campaign in co-op with friends. Hunting zombies is always better when you have someone to watch your back, or blame for your deaths. We already have a Dying Light 2 co-op guide, but playing co-op also opens the door to some potential cheeky glitches, such as item duplication.

If you can pair up with someone you trust, you can abuse Dying Light 2‘s online mechanics to make duplicates of precious items. This is fairly simple on PC, and although it’s doable on console it can also be a bit more awkward to achieve. This glitch was brought to our attention by PowerPyx

Using this glitch you can make a lot of money very quickly – or just share your rarest items with your friends. Read on below for everything you need to know.

Make sure to check out our other guides to get you started, including a breakdown of all major story choices, the best parkour and combat skills, and the tips and tricks you need to get started.

Dying Light 2 - How to make money using the duplication glitch

The duplication glitch that we detail below only directly affects items, and only items that can dropped on the floor can be duplicated. That includes most of your inventory – but not your clothes, annoyingly.

Check your valuables and weapons for an item with an incredibly high sell value at vendors – or even multiple. You can boost the value of your weapons by equipping mods. Once you duplicate your precious items, you can sell them at any vendor for 100% profit. Select a handful of the most precious items you have, and then meet up with your friend in online co-op.

Dying Light 2 - How to perform the duplication glitch

Follow these steps in detail in order to perform the item duplication glitch – though you should be aware that it involves deleting your save data, and if you haven’t got a save data backup in place this can lead to you permanently losing your save data. It’s much easier to duplicate your save data on PC, and while this duplication glitch is possible on console, it’s much harder to replicate.

Once you have your valuable items to duplicate and a co-op partner to help you with the glitch, it’s time to get started. You will need to create a save game backup.

On PlayStation, upload your most recent save to PS+ Cloud storage.

On Xbox, quit the game in the place where you wish to save and ensure your cloud save backup has uploaded.

On PC, find where your Dying Light 2 save file is stored and make a copy of it that you can use later.

While playing co-op, drop your valuable items on the floor for your co-op partner to collect. Afterwards immediately exit the game and overwrite your save game with your backup.

On PlayStation you can overwrite your save by forcing your PS+ cloud save to overwrite your local save.

On Xbox you need to delete your local save data in the game options from the console OS (do not restart the game at this point), and then once you start the game with no local save data, you should automatically download your previously uploaded cloud save.

On PC you can simply replace your new save file with the duplicate you created earlier.

Once you restart the game you will find your equipment still in your inventory, and your co-op partner will also have a duplicate of whatever you dropped. You can do this potentially dozens of times to duplicate your most valuable items, and then sell them for an incredibly healthy profit. Rinse and repeat, and you can easily get the Who Wants To Be A… achievement, which requires the player to hold 1,000,000 of the in-game currency. Good luck!
