Oh man. This is rough.
Miles Mikolas had a no-hitter going for 8.2 innings. He was up to 128 pitches while facing the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Cal Mitchell and had two strikes on him.
And then? Mitchell got hold of one straight out to center field, where Harrison Bader chased. He seemed to get pretty close, but not enough as the ball bounced off the warning track and over the wall.
It was so heartbreaking to watch. Mikolas was THISCLOSE to joining the record books, and then it was over. He was removed from the game after pitch No. 129 and everyone felt for him:
Brutal

Still, look at these numbers:
Miles Mikolas was just one strike away from a no-hitter, but what a performance ๐

Any time a no-hitter gets broken up with two outs in the ninth is just painful. St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas is done after 129 pitches of excellence against Pittsburgh. Phenomenal performance regardless.

The Cardinals win, 9-1, and take both games of the doubleheader. Miles Mikolas, who has fought like hell over the last couple of season to be healthy, fell a strike short of baseball lore, but gave us all a thrill.
What a day at Busch Stadium.

Miles Mikolas leaving the field after 8.2 innings of no hit ball. This is what itโs all about. Picking yourself back up and reminding yourself it was a great performance even without the 27th out. Well done.๐ค๐ผ๐๐ผ๐ค๐ผ pic.twitter.com/JSLXb7NMZZ
