The Cleveland Browns gave up on their pursuit of Deshaun Watson, but it still created an awkward situation for current Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.
And now, Mayfield wants out.
A couple days after Mayfield wrote what was essentially a goodbye letter to Cleveland, he told ESPN that he was requesting a trade from the Browns. Mayfield felt that Cleveland’s pursuit of Watson (along with some curiously leaked stories about his attitude) left the relationship irreparably damaged.
There was just one problem with Mayfield’s trade request: The Browns don’t seem to be agreeing to it. They told the former No. 1 pick that they would not accommodate the trade request, which, uh, won’t make for a healthy working relationship.

Mayfield is under contract for the 2022 season before hitting free agency. So, the Browns may be willing to let a miserable Baker play through this season before looking for alternatives at quarterback. Mayfield won’t like that idea, but his options are limited.
