The NBA’s controversial 65-game awards requirement will certainly be a hot-button issue to debate this offseason.
For those of you out of the loop, the NBA requires players to play in at least 65 games to be eligible for postseason awards for the first time in league history.
If a player can’t meet that requirement, that player isn’t eligible to win prestigious awards like the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and more. The player also wouldn’t be eligible to make any of the three All-NBA teams or the two All-Defensive teams. If a player can’t make win any of those awards, they might be missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars.
Kevin Durant was the first player to call this new rule out when it was announced as a possibility this season. It’s certainly still just as controversial as it was back then. Lots of players are already out of the running for awards.
Here’s a look at the list so far.
