There was no one more excited for Aaliyah Edwards’ name to be called at the WNBA Draft than Paige Bueckers.
On Monday, the 2024 WNBA Draft was held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in Brooklyn, New York as the next generation of professional women’s basketball players were shown off to the public. It was an incredible night for the sport, with Caitlin Clark headed to the Indiana Fever at No. 1 overall. Not far behind, however, was Edwards from UConn, who was selected at No. 6 by the Washington Mystics.
As Edwards’ name was called, the camera panned to Bueckers — Edwards’ former teammate at UConn — who was absolutely delighted to see her friend drafted.
Very much a proud parent reaction from Bueckers there. And she said as much on Twitter after her reaction went viral!
WNBA fans then immediately turned Bueckers’ reaction to Edwards’ being drafted into an instant meme.
