South Carolina and Dawn Staley finally have their golden season.
On Sunday, the South Carolina Gamecocks bested the Iowa Hawkeyes 87-75 in the women’s NCAA tournament championship to finish an undefeated 38-0 season. South Carolina held Caitlin Clark to 30 points after the star posted 18 in the first quarter alone, with the Gamecocks climbing back from an early 10-0 deficit to eventually take the win.
Not only does South Carolina complete their undefeated season with this win, they also get revenge from how they bowed out last season at the hands of Iowa in the Final Four. As the final seconds ticked off the clock, announcer Ryan Ruocco made reference to this moment of sweet revenge with his final call of South Carolina’s championship victory.
