Fantasy football waiver wire after Week 2: Tony Pollard enters the picture

Week 2 of the 2021 NFL season is nearly over, with one game to go on Monday night.

And if you play fantasy football, you’re already planning ahead with waivers after a busy Sunday of games.

That’s what we’re here for, a roundup of some of the players you could be targeting ahead of Week 3.

Some of the names below might be taken already, but if not, there are a bunch of dudes who could change your fantasy fortunes this season. Let’s run through them, in no particular order, and we’ll update this after the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions play on Monday Night Football.

1
QB Daniel Jones, New York Giants

There are a bunch of QB injuries to keep an eye on after this week, and don’t laugh at the idea of picking up Jones, who has run for 122 yards in the first two weeks of the season and faces a not-so-good Falcons defense next week.

2
QB Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos

With 20-plus fantasy points in each of his first two starts, Bridgewater has proven his fantasy floor is one of the best in the game among the non-star QBs. His ceiling? Well, maybe we’ll see what it is against the Jets in Week 3.

3
QB Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders

Give him some credit — four touchdowns thus far and 382 yards on Sunday after throwing for 435 in Week 1.

4
RB Sony Michel, Los Angeles Rams

I assume he’s on one of the teams in your league. But if not? Make him your first priority. Darrell Henderson has a rib injury, so we’ll see what that means for Week 3 — either way, the Rams face a really tough Bucs defense, but he’s still worth a look.

5
RB Tony Pollard, Dallas Cowboys

Hmmm. Ezekiel Elliott got 16 carries … and Pollard got 13. Are we looking at a possible timeshare here? If so, Pollard could be a huge pickup, and a league-winner if Zeke were to get hurt.

6
RBs JaMycal Hasty and Jeff Wilson Jr., San Francisco 49ers

Elijah Mitchell might be good to go in Week 3, but if not? Hasty could be next in line … if his injury isn’t bad.

As for Wilson? He’s on injured reserve for now, so if you can stash him, that would be good in case Kyle Shanahan wants to give him carries later in the season, and with this team, that’s not a bad bet to make.

7
WR Rondale Moore, Arizona Cardinals

The rookie followed up an impressive 68-yard game with seven catches for 114 yards and this touchdown. He needs to be on every roster out there with Kyler Murray playing like he is:

8
WR Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears

He was a preseason darling who had a relatively quiet Week 1. But against the Bengals, he lead all Bears receivers in targets (eight), catches (six) and yards (66).

If Justin Fields starts, that’s huge for him, too.

9
RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson, Atlanta Falcons

Feels like we’ve been waiting forever for him to truly break out. And while I’m not sure if this counts as one, I’d say he’s more than fantasy relevant with seven carries in each of his first two games with the Falcons, two touchdowns and five catches against the Bucs.

There’s some flex-worthiness here worth investing in (and for three-WR leagues, he’s got some of that start-a-WR-who’s-an-RB eligibility).

10
WR Tim Patrick, Denver Broncos

It looks like it’s him, not K.J. Hamler, who’s the second WR in Denver while Jerry Jeudy is out. The yardage isn’t that high, but he’s caught touchdowns in each of his first two contests.
