LeSean McCoy lost $250,000 on Ryan Garcia's upset win over Devin Haney

When it comes to betting a heavy favorite, you better be sure they’re going to win. Because the cost opportunity usually isn’t worth the massive amounts of money you have to lay on the line. That’s what LeSean McCoy found out the hard way Saturday.

The former NFL running back bet an insane amount of money on WBC junior welterweight champion Devin Haney’s -1000 odds to beat Ryan Garcia to win just a fraction of what he was betting. To be exact, he bet $250,000 to win $25,000, according to screenshots of a since-deleted tweet. After Garcia stunned the world with a majority decision win that included three knockdowns, McCoy walked away with only a massive L.

Though Shady removed the image of his bet at Fanatics, he previously acknowledged he’d be putting down a big number on Haney. He confirmed losing after the fight by tweeting “I just got cooooked.”

McCoy wasn’t the only loser. UFC’s Israel Adesanya bet $20,000 on Haney to win by knockout, a wager that would have at least doubled his money had it hit.

Instead, he came away with nothing too.

On the flip side, people who bet Garcia’s odds of around +500 to win made off nicely. Though Garcia himself lost a wild bet of $1.5 million to Haney for missing weight by three pounds — which disqualified him from challenging for Haney’s title — he knows he helped plenty others with their bets.

After the fight, Garcia jokingly asked for his cut of their winnings.
