The sports world was squarely focused on the 2024 Women’s NCAA tournament on Monday night — and so were bettors.
Multiple sportsbooks, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, BetRivers, Caesars and Bet365, reported that Caitlin Clark’s Iowa Hawkeyes team beating the defending national champion LSU Tigers, 94-87, as 2.5-point favorites was the most-bet women’s college basketball of all-time.
An impressive accomplishment, indeed, but perhaps more impressive was that the game had more betting action than any NBA game on Monday night.
“Both women’s NCAA tournament games last night outperformed all six NBA games in total bets and handle,” BetMGM trader Seamus Magee said in a statement. “LSU vs. Iowa was the most bet women’s basketball game ever, and UConn vs. USC was top 3. It was a special night for the game and for the sportsbook as we saw record handles in both pregame and live in-play action.”
FanDuel reported that the LSU-Iowa game was the No. 1 betting event on Monday, ahead of all NBA, MLB and NHL games, and generated a 28 percent increase over the 2023 women’s national championship game between Iowa and LSU.
It was a tremendous night of basketball and one that will live on in history, regardless of how the Final Four shakes out.
