Joel Embiid's injury paves way for new NBA MVP betting favorites, including Nikola Jokić

News of Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid’s injured lateral meniscus has plummeted his NBA MVP odds and established new favorites in the race for the league’s best regular season player.

While Embiid’s odds fell on Wednesday after his injury, FanDuel didn’t even have him listed among the players with the most relevant odds for NBA MVP as of Thursday night.

Instead, Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokić (-140) and Oklahoma City Thunder breakout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+250) now have the best odds in the NBA for the top regular season honor.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Dončić (+650) and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo (+800) held the third and fourth spots on FanDuel.

Embiid’s injury will likely halt what could’ve been a second-straight MVP title for the Philly stalwart. For now, Jokić and Gilgeous-Alexander will have added fuel to claim what would be the first NBA MVP honor for either player.

Hopefully, the 76ers will get Embiid back and healthy sooner than later.
