Every week the Iowa Hawkeyes dare the oddsmakers to set the point total line at a new, historic low. And every Saturday the Hawkeyes prove sportsbooks didn’t go low enough.
Three weeks ago, Iowa set a sports betting record with the lowest over/under line recorded at 30.5 when the Hawkeyes played Minnesota. The under easily cashed when the teams combined for 22 points.
Last week the oddsmakers settled at 29.5 — resetting a record which dates back to 1995 — when Iowa played Northwestern. The under also cashed there as Iowa won, 10-7.
And for the third consecutive Hawkeyes game, oddsmakers dropped the line again. Saturday’s matchup against Rutgers closed at an astoundingly low 27.5 points.
Even that may have been too aspirational. Iowa led 3-0 at halftime.

While oddsmakers may not have gotten the message about this Hawkeyes team — and the competency of Big Ten offenses, in general — the betting public certainly has.
The Iowa-Rutgers UNDER was one of the most popular bets across the sport today, including the most bet UNDER at BetMGM with 55 percent of bets wagered on the point total and 53 percent of the total handle wagered.
