You know what’s worse than having your parlay ruined on the first leg before it can even get started? Having your parlay lose on a single leg that very nearly hit.
One DraftKings bettor suffered through an extreme version of that Monday with the start of college basketball season. They put together a 20-leg parlay of teams favored to win, betting just a mere 60 cents to win more than $200,000. With odds that long, it had to be more of a “why not” bet than anything this person actually expected to win.
But then it did almost win.
Every single leg hit except for one. One! And that one leg came just one basket short of winning. One! North Carolina was favored by 17.5 points over Radford, and won by 16. Ouch.

To make the loss even more “soul crushing,” UNC had plenty of time to make good on the spread, going the final 2:30 of the game without making a field goal. That drought was the difference between this bettor winning $248,000 and nothing.
