Bailey Zappe threw the most unnecessary fake spike interception to end the Patriots' comeback bid against Colts

If you had money riding on the underdog New England Patriots in Sunday morning’s game against the Indianapolis Colts (-1.5), you knew that was money down the drain the moment Mac Jones threw a late red zone interception with the team trailing 10-6.

Not only did the pick rob the Pats of a chance to take the lead, it got Jones benched in favor of Bailey Zappe for the team’s final drive of the game. And Zappe didn’t do much better.

Going to a no huddle with under a minute left on a drive that started with some promise, Zappe went for the ol’ fake spike throw on a 1st-and-10 and put the ball right in the arms of Indy’s Rodney Thomas II to end the game.

Of course, throwing the ball away was an option. But hey, that’s the Patriots’ season in a nutshell, folks.
