Go to any NHL game during the regular season and you are bound to see a true staple of intermission entertainment: watching fans attempt to shoot the puck from center ice through a tiny opening into the net.
The attempts typically range from the hilarious to the “let’s get this over quickly”, but every once in a while the promotions teams at these arenas goof up and accidentally pick a fan who know how to handle a hockey stick.
Usually those skills are counteracted by the these fans are standing on the ice and aiming into a very small hole halfway down the rink with most of the arena lights turned down.
And yet this was still no match for one New York Rangers fan, who showed up to Madison Square Garden for Monday’s Opening Night game against the Coyotes and left with a brand new Hyundai Tucson.

That right there is why coaches always say “don’t ask how, just ask how many”. Was it a textbook shot? No. Did it wobble like it was heading home from the bar? Definitely. Did it get the job done? Without a doubt.
This fan has earned the right to retell this story however he wants. He can claim he ripped off a 100 MPH slap shot straight through the cutout and it doesn’t matter because he’s got the Hyundai to prove it went in.
In any case, the Rangers in-game experience team is probably getting a little talking to today on best practices for selecting who gets to step onto the ice at intermission.
