The 2023 Heisman race officially has a new favorite.
After USC got close to falling to Arizona in overtime this past Saturday, Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams is no longer favored by oddsmakers to repeat as the Heisman winner in December.
Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is now the slight favorite over Williams, with FanDuel putting Penix at +220 odds compared to Williams’ +250 odds.
It’s not a wide gap, and the race is clearly still very close with plenty of football left to play.
However, it’s a discernible change as Penix leads the undefeated Huskies to a possible College Football Playoff berth this year.
While Williams could be a stellar performance away from reclaiming the Heisman favorite status, Penix can now hop in the driver’s seat for the most prestigious award in college football.
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix is in third place right now at +600, meaning the Pac-12 has the top three Heisman favorites at the moment.
