You couldn’t have scripted a more brutal finish than what bettors saw during Saturday’s Minnesota – Iowa game.
After oddsmakers set the total points scored mark for the contest at a historically low 30.5 points, the Hawkeyes’ absurdly brutal luck and abysmal offensive performance helped those who bet the under walk away happy.
The drama unfolded when Iowa, down 12-10, saw cornerback Cooper DeJean pick up a Minnesota punt and run it back 55 yards to the house to give Iowa a possible 17-12 lead with just a minute-and-a-half to go in the game.
Well, because DeJean made a motion that he wasn’t going to touch the ball before picking it up for the score, referees ruled it a fair catch.
The Golden Gophers would go on to stifle a Hawkeyes comeback and win, 12-10. Iowa would fail to cover the -3.5 spread on an outrageously bad beat, and those who bet the over on the total would throw the remote at the T.V.
IOWA (-3.5) 55-YD KICK RETURN TD TO WIN AND COVER RULED A FAIR CATCH 😭

Like, woah. That is a catastrophic sequence for Iowa bettors and over bettors alike.
We’re not sure why the football gods chose chaos in Iowa on Saturday, but they might not have been too pleased with the fact the Hawkeyes only had 12 total yards in the game’s second half.
It was a disastrous way for the day to end for Iowa and anyone who thought this game would have more than 30 total points scored by the final horn.
