The New York Yankees losing streak is up to five games after Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 games overall, falling under .500 (60-61) this late in a season for the first time since 1995.
1995!
The last time the Yankees had a losing record after 121 games Bill Clinton was the President of the United States. The late Notorious B.I.G. was still the king of New York rap. TLC’s seven-week run at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts with Waterfalls had just come to an end — Coolio’s Gangsta’s Paradise eventually took over and held steady for a few weeks.
The last time the Yankees were under .500 this late into the season:
– Derek Jeter was recalled from the minors (for good)
– 9 active Yankees weren't born yet
– Manager Aaron Boone was in Double-A

However, one major difference between 1995 and 2023 Yankees is the ’95 team hovered under or around .500 all year before turning it on late to make the playoffs as a Wild Card. In fact, they were never under .500 again after falling to 60-61.
This year’s Yankees are trending in the opposite direction, and it’s terrible news for bettors. New York was among the World Series favorites entering the year and accounted for the second-highest ticket and handle percentage at BetMGM as recently as Monday.

With the team now in last place in the AL East — 6.5 games out of a Wild Card spot — and lifeless as ever, those bets are all looking like losers.
