Skyy Moore looks like Patrick Mahomes’ No. 1 WR by default and fantasy managers shouldn't care

As long as Patrick Mahomes is their quarterback, the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs will always be a prime Super Bowl contender. And as long as Mahomes is happy and healthy, he should remain a great fantasy football option at quarterback every year, too. This holds regardless of the members of his supporting cast.

We’d do well to remember this as the Chiefs plow through training camp with Travis Kelce and Some Guys acting as Mahomes’ primary pass targets thus far.

According to a report from Jesse Newell of the Kansas City Star, second-year receiver Skyy Moore has been one of Kansas City’s top receivers for every rep where they’ve only had two flankers on the field. The other slot has seen a mix of Rashee Rice and Justyn Ross, but Moore has been the constant.

And anyone planning to draft Mahomes or other Chiefs players in fantasy shouldn’t be remotely concerned:

I won’t lie and say I love the Chiefs’ current wide receiver corps. This is far from an inspired or experienced group that some of the AFC’s elite defenses should fear. It’s easily the Chiefs’ fatal flaw and what might ultimately keep them from a third Super Bowl title in five years in February.

But from a fantasy perspective? Whatever. I wave my hand.

If there’s any quarterback that can turn chicken you-know-what into chicken salad on offense, it’s Mahomes — the unquestioned best player in football. The guy literally just threw over 40 touchdowns and over 5,000 yards with JuJu Smith-Schuster as his No. 1 receiver. That should prove the signal caller can produce big numbers with anyone.

As long as Andy Reid is his coach and Kelce is still humming along like a dynamic tight end, it doesn’t matter who Mahomes’ receivers are. Proceed with your drafts accordingly.
