Competing against Stephen Curry was tough enough for Mardy Fish, the retired tennis player who came three strokes short of besting the four-time NBA champion at the American Century Championship last weekend.
It sucks that he had to go against a member of the crowd too.
As Fish explained in an interview with The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo, a spectator who heckled him as he carried a lead into the 18th hole was actually someone who had a bet on Curry to win. The guy shouted things at Fish twice, including once during his backswing, infuriating everyone involved, including Curry.
ICYMI, @StephenCurry30 narrowly defeated @MardyFish at the American Century Championship last weekend.
What exactly happened with the heckler at the 18th tee box?

“He said he bet on Steph to win, and so he wanted him to win,” Fish said. “And you start thinking about it and you’re like surprised that stuff doesn’t happen more often with all the betting nowadays. Especially in golf, right?”
That’s a great point by Fish. Some bettors go to great lengths to see their bets win. I’d be surprised if this is the last time something like this happens.
