Lionel Messi’s debut with MLS side Inter Miami is finally here, and it’s already having a dramatic effect on betting markets.
With Miami set to face Liga MX’s Cruz Azul Friday evening in the group stage of the Leagues Cup, bettors are hammering Messi’s odds to score a goal in his debut. And I mean HAMMERING.
According to BetMGM’s John Ewing, 99 percent of match bets are on Messi to score anytime at +115 odds, and bettors aren’t stopping there. At DraftKings, 98 percent of the handle is on Messi to not only score, but to score the first goal of the match at +300 odds.

It’s easy to view this as an overly enthusiastic public, but that might not be the case. Even with Messi’s limited preparation, he’s still the best player in the world being dropped into a game between last place teams in their respective leagues who each rank near the bottom in scoring too.
The chances of Messi putting one in the net have to be as good as anyone.
