What is the purse for the 2023 Kentucky Derby?

The 2023 Kentucky Derby is about to get going up at Churchill Downs, and there will be plenty of money on the line.

In this year’s edition of the derby, the purse will be $3 million, per ESPN.

The winner of the Kentucky Derby does not get the full purse, but $1.86 million will be allotted to the victor from the $3 million available.

The second-place finisher will receive $600,000, the third-place finisher will receive $300,000, the fourth-place finisher will receive $150,000 and the fifth-place finisher will receive $90,000.

The winning jockey will earn $186,000 for coming out ahead in the derby.

Last year, the Kentucky Derby purse was also set at $3 million with Rich Strike topping the field. Rich Strike had 80-1 odds to win the race.

This year’s Kentucky Derby will provide one horse racing team a hefty haul as the purse stays constant to 2022’s total. The winner of this year’s run will be known soon enough.
