Seattle stunned oddsmakers by taking Devon Witherspoon No. 5 overall

Bettors could’ve walked away with an absolute windfall if they’d pegged Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon going to the Seattle Seahawks at pick No. 5 in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Indeed, the ferocious defensive back went within the first five picks of Thursday night’s first round to somewhat of a surprise.

Oddsmakers sure didn’t think it would happen, as Witherspoon had 33-1 chances to go to Seattle at the pick.

Witherspoon will join 2022 fifth-round steal Tariq Woolen as a long-term cornerstone for Seattle’s defensive backfield. It’s a smart pick for the Seahawks, and it was an absolute shock in Vegas.

Any bettor thinking this would happen was very much rewarded.

Some thought the Seahawks could’ve taken a quarterback with this pick, while others thought Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter could’ve gone at this spot.

However, Seattle took another promising player for its secondary and shocked bettors in the process. Time will tell if this surprise will pay off for the Seahawks.
