Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal is reportedly facing a police investigation in Orlando, Florida following an alleged altercation between the shooting guard and a fan who lost a bet due to Washington’s performance.
According to ESPN and a police report, Beal was exiting the court at the Orlando Magic’s Amway Center last week when an unidentified fan lobbed obscenities at the 29-year-old saying “you made me lose $1,300” following a 122-112 Wizards loss
Beal allegedly made contact with the fan’s head in response, knocking his hat off, while heading towards the Washington locker room.
Police reviewed video footage of the altercation and heard Beal say this is his job and he takes it seriously, and the man is heard apologizing, implying he did not intend to offend him, according to the report.
The complaint states that “probable cause exists to charge Beal with simple battery” and that charges will be filed with the state attorney’s office. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.
While legal wagering on sports is available in 33 states — and the Wizards’ home Capital One Arena features a William Hill Sportsbook — Florida currently does not offer such markets.
Beal has not played for Washington since last week’s loss in Orlando as he works through a knee injury.
