Middle Tennessee’s jaw-dropping 98-yard touchdown perfectly summed up Miami’s very bad day

The 2022 Miami Hurricanes have been downgraded to a tropical forlorn.

Miami lost to Conference USA stalwart Middle Tennessee State University Saturday at home, 45-31, which should knock the No. 25 Hurricanes out of the AP rankings come Sunday.

The Blue Raiders came into the game as the 25.5-point underdogs but still walloped Miami with a 17-3 first quarter. MTSU never let up from there.

Things got so bad for the Hurricanes that the team benched sophomore quarterback Tyler Van Dyke in the second half for redshirt freshman Jake Garcia.

Miami’s rough day at the office might be best encapsulated by the play below.

On that play, Middle Tennessee senior QB Chase Cunningham launched a rocket to junior wideout DJ England-Chisolm, who helped deliver a jaw-dropping 98-yard touchdown to get the Blue Raiders a 38-17 margin to start the fourth.

We should also mention that play came right after Middle Tennessee’s defense stuffed Miami on 4th-and-short at the goal line.

After this latest fracas, the Hurricanes might want to avoid Conference USA for a bit.

And to really make things worse, Miami gave Middle Tennessee $1.5 million to show up in Miami Gardens on Saturday and take down the Hurricanes.
