Gregg Popovich gave bettors advice they really didn't need at Media Day: Fade the Spurs this season

The San Antonio Spurs aren’t winning an NBA title any time soon. If you’re a fan of the team or simply like some of the young players they have over there, get that delusion out of your head right now.

The 2022-23 season will be another year of development in San Antonio, and probably more so than recent years after the team just traded All-Star Dejounte Murray to the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason.

But you don’t need to take my word for it. The Hall of Famer coaching the team, Gregg Popovich, said himself at the team’s Media Day on Monday not to bet on their odds to win a title this season. No, seriously, he did.

“I probably shouldn’t say this, but I’ll say it anyway. Nobody here should go to Vegas with a thought of betting on us to win the championship,” Pop said.

“It’s probably not going to happen.”

Thanks Pop…not that we ever really needed you to say it. The Spurs were just 34-48 a year ago, and their preseason win total for this year was set at 22.5. Only one team finished with fewer than 22 wins last season.

Sportsbooks know what time it is too. San Antonio has +50000 odds to win the title at both Tipico and BetMGM, tied for the longest of any team in the NBA.
