Overwatch 2 is coming out this October, will be free-to-play

After far too many years of waiting, Overwatch diehards will get the sequel soon.

During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, Blizzard announced that Overwatch 2 will launch in early access on Oct. 4, 2022, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Not only that, but the PVP portion will be entirely free-to-play! Still no details on when the PVE story mode stuff is coming, but probably next year.

“We can’t wait to roll out the beginning of the Overwatch 2 experience on Oct. 4 and introduce an exciting new competitive vision, featuring amazing new content and a reimagining of the iconic heroes, maps, and gameplay that made the original game so compelling,” Mike Ybarra, Blizzard Entertainment president, said in a press release. “This is the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and fun for many years to come.”

Check out the new Overwatch 2 trailer below. It shows off a new hero named Junker Queen, who looks like she just stepped out of Mad Max: Fury Road.

GLHF went hands-on with Overwatch 2 and came away hopeful, even if it was more like an annual Call of Duty release.
