Sam Darnold, QB: OUT (mononucleosis).
Sure enough, the New York Jets quarterback will not play Monday night against the Cleveland Browns, as he is out with the virus commonly known as mono.
Jets head coach Adam Gase shared the news with reporters Thursday, saying he doesn’t have a timetable for Darnold’s return but that they’re hoping he’ll be good to go Oct. 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Gase said Darnold had noticed significant weight loss and shared his concerns with the team’s medical staff. Darnold missed Wednesday’s practice with what was believed to be strep throat before receiving the correct diagnosis.
Trevor Siemian will get the Week 2 start with Luke Falk backing him up, per Gase.
