Geraint Thomas blazed a trail to the 2018 Tour de France and will be back in Brussels, Belgium, on Saturday for Stage 1, a 192-kilometre ride set in the capital via Charleroi. Many will be cheering Thomas to not only pick up Froome’s Team Ineos mantle, but once again lead the crew to retain his Yellow Jersey. The 33-year-old crashed out of the Tour de Suisse in June, but recently said he’s feeling “less pressure” heading into his Tour title defense:

“I don’t feel pressure to prove that my win wasn’t a fluke, or whatever negative angle people want to take from it. It’s actually less pressure. If a rider hasn’t quite fulfilled their potential in Grand Tours they might be too eager to attack too soon or too much, to get too emotional, but I think I can be more chilled, more calculated.

“Some people are saying I’ll be a one-hit wonder and all that stuff. It’s a pretty good hit to have if you’re going to have one.”

Team Ineos—formerly Team Sky—have won six of the past seven Tours de France thanks to three different riders. If Thomas doesn’t win this year, Colombian teammate Egan Bernal will be another to keep an eye on.

Peter Sagan of Team Bora-Hansgrohe is sure to be another constant threat on the Green Jersey, while the Movistar trio of Mikel Landa, Alejandro Valverde and Nairo Quintana are sure to be dangerous.
